I am so excited to have one of my very best friends (and roommates), Sydney White, guest blogging today about her travels and adventures with Krochet Kids this past summer! I love highlighting wonderful companies with great missions and Krochet Kids is a good one!
Hi Cupcakes and Sunshine readers! I am really excited to be guest blogging today and talking to you about my favorite non-profit, KK intl. I had the amazing opportunity to intern with them this past summer at their HQ in Costa Mesa, CA.
During my time there, I learned a lot about what true impact looks like and how sustainable change requires investing in the whole person. It was an incredible three months and I am very grateful for them, as well as Haley giving me this opportunity to share about it with you now!
KK intl. is a non-profit empowering women in Uganda and Peru to rise above poverty. Through a combination of jobs, education, and mentorships, women are equipped with the skills, education, and resources they need to change their circumstances for good. It’s more than giving and it’s more than aid; it’s empowerment that allows women to have a sustainable, independent future.
You can learn more about the KK intl.’s model and impact here! I also highly recommend watching this video that showcases 45 women who recently graduated from the program. (I also highly recommend a box of tissues cause I may or may not have teared up.)
Another awesome thing about KK intl. is that every product they make is hand-signed by the person who made it! By including this tag, you know exactly who made your product and you have the opportunity to read their story and send them a personal thank you note through the website! Over the summer, I got to read through thank you notes written from supporters across the globe. It was really encouraging to see first-hand the power of stories and how connecting creators and consumers serves to validate and encourage both parties. I’ve learned that amazing things happen when you choose to prioritize relationships above all else.
Lastly, since this is Cupcakes and Sunshine (and since it was one of the biggest perks of the summer), I would be crazy not to mention that one of the best parts of living in Southern California for three months was the food...
I lived down the street from a 24-hour donut shop and within walking/biking distance of some of the greatest taco joints in existence, so I mean it when I say that these foods (and the heavenly acai bowls) were the crux of my diet… and one of the many reasons I need to go back.
It was a summer well spent, and I am forever grateful for the friendships made, adventures had, food eaten, and the opportunity to learn from and be a part of the KK intl. team!
Thanks again to Haley for having me! Have a great Monday!
