Things Got Really Pinteresting.

Well, I know you are probably expecting a really, really nifty Make It Pinteresting Monday post like the previous ones here and here BUT...I do not have one for you today. Actually, I have a very pinteresting Pinterest fail. In my fashion merchandising textiles class, we are working on a group project where we have to create an item to market and sell. Our group thought it would be a great idea to sell and market an "Arm Knitting" boxed kit since I had heard about arm-knit scarves on Pinterest. We watched this video here:

and decided it would be a great boxed kit to present to the class. I mean...look how cute that scarf is! And how crafty! In 30 minutes? It sounded too good to be true! After a couple of hours of trying to make it work, I am still befuddled. I can't seem to make my scarf look anything like the one in the picture. And now all I have is two knotted "skeins" of yarn. (after reading lots of other "arm knitting" tutorials, I learned that a skein is a roll of yarn. So yes, I have gotten something out of this Pinterest project.)

and then Ryan completely assuaged my worries.

and now I'm going to buy more yarn and start over.
Because Ryan says it's okay.

Sometimes Pinterest fails can really mess with your mind. BUT I HAVE CONFIDENCE THAT I CAN MAKE THIS SCARF WORK OUT. (and that I can get a rocking grade on this textiles project) All projects can't go seamlessly all of the time. and I'm knot going to give up! (Yes I just used two knitting puns in one sentence. Just go with it. It's Monday.)

I'm going to keep working on the scarf and I'll let you know how it goes.
Until then, I'm LOLing at these Pinterest fails:

and feeling a bit better that I'm not the only one.
Happy Monday :)

and congrats to Taryn! The winner of the PB&J giveaway!

Question of the day:
Have you ever had a Pinterest fail?
Are you crafting any projects for Make it Pinteresting Monday?

Flying Biscuit Cafe Review

As you know, Mama's Boy is typically my favorite breakfast food go-to. But this past weekend, some intense breakfast competition occurred after visiting the Flying Biscuit Cafe in Peachtree City, Georgia with my good friend Carly.

After a wonderful weekend at the Passion Conference in Atlanta, we decided to swing by this delicious restaurant which serves breakfast all day. And since breakfast is my favorite meal of the day, I was a happy happy camper.

Which brings up the question: why don't ALL restaurants serve breakfast all day?

Anyways, back to the menu: I ordered the High Flyer- which had "two large farm fresh eggs served with signature chicken breakfast sausage, creamy dreamy grits, plus an organic oatmeal pancake topped with warm peach compote and served with maple syrup." Um. Holy. Cow. Was it good! I was seriously considering just doing a post on their "creamy dreamy" grits. They were that amazing.  So cheesy and wonderful. I really don't know how they did it. I'm bamboozled. But they were dreamy in all ways.

and their cranberry apple butter that came alongside the fluffy flying biscuits? fab-u-lous.(I read that they make over 5,000 biscuits a week per location!)
and I can't forget that peach pancake. Whoah. It was great.

Just when I thought things couldn't get any better, Carly asked me if I wanted to sample her Southern Style Eggs Benedict: "a fluffy flying biscuit served open-faced topped with pimiento cheese, two poached eggs, crisp turkey bacon, Hollandaise sauce, and garnished with fresh basil." Um yes, I sampled it. And I really wanted to have 100 samples more of her meal, even though I was completely stuffed and in the most pleasant of food comas. Carly also ordered a parfait on the side, which was beautifully garnished with fresh berries and granola:

Ohhh my goooodness. Probably one of the best meals I've ever had. I can not wait to fly back to the Flying Biscuit Cafe ASAP. The good news is that they have 13 locations all over the south. So you can check it out too!

I hope you are having a wonderful week so far. Stay warm, and treat yourself to the Flying Biscuit Cafe if you get the chance! :)

Make it Pinteresting Monday: We Go Together Like PB&J Snailmail *Giveaway*

I absolutely looove snailmail. I love sending snailmail and I love receiving snailmail. Checking the mail is one of my favorite hobbies. And after classes I'm usually at the post office purchasing stamps or sending off packages.

And guess what? You can win some snailmail by entering the Rafflecopter at the bottom of this post.
While browsing this week's Pinterest finds for #MakeitPinterestingMondays, I was inspired by this lovely Box of Sunshine idea from Happy-Go-Lucky...

and I knew a snailmail giftbox was what I wanted to create.

As a student, PB&Js are often considered a main food group. They are true convenient comfort food at its finest. So why not put together a few PB&J items as a snailmail gift and make someone's day a bit brighter?

As you all know, I'm. obsessed. with. snacks. And I have recently been intrigued by Target's Archer farms PB&J snacking trailmix. It definitely inspired this week's Make it Pinteresting Monday snailmail package.

And what's as fun as Target's PB&J trail mix? Trader Joe's PB&J chocolate bars. You guys, these chocolate bars are wonderful! I can't walk out of TJ's without one. I'm team PB&J.

I also tossed some individual Jif pb snacking cups into the box. Because pb is pretty fantastic on its own too.

The fun thing about this snailmail box is that you can personalize it in so many ways. The PB&J possibilities are endless. PB&J t-shirts, earrings, stickers, snacks. Peanut butter & jelly is kinda a big deal.

Tuck a little note into the box...

and send off to your best friend, a new friend, old friend, neighbor.
They will be super smiley upon receiving this snailmail package at their front door.

and finally, let me tell you a little PB&J secret....
Heat your PB&J sandwiches in the microwave 11 seconds for a warm, gooey treat. Enjoy with a glass of cold milk.
Maybe you can scribble that little secret on the back of the note you tuck into the box because let me tell you, 11 second PB&Js are just wonderful!

Now for the Make it Pinteresting Monday details:

My thoughts: I thought the Box of Sunshine from Happy-Go-Lucky was absolutely sunshiny and would totally make my day. You know what else makes my days? PBandJs. I thought it would be a super fun idea to combine the two into a fun snailmail box for family, friends, and neighbors.

Easy? Oh yes! Just gather a few of your favorite PB&J items and BOOM! Instant snailmail package.

Changes I made: I used Target's Archer Farms Peanut Butter and Jelly trailmix, Trader Joe's PB&J chocolate bars, and Jif To-Go cups for this week's #MakeitPinterestingMonday

AND GUESS WHAT? You can enter to win this We Go together Like PB&J box below! Just enter your information in the Rafflecopter below. I will name a winner by Sunday, January 26th. Good luck!

Captivating by John and Stasi Eldredge Book Review

Ladies, do not walk...RUN to the bookstore/library/Amazon and read Captivating: Unveiling the Mystery of a Woman's Soul by John and Stasi Eldredge right away! Oh wow, has it been wonderful. I called my bestfriend on multiple occasions and had to read pages out loud.

In this book, John and Stasi Eldredge discuss a woman's heart and how God created us to live and love. We, as women, are captivating. And this book shows that we can untangle our hearts from the messy lies we sometimes believe (I'm not good enough, I'm not beautiful enough, I'm not strong enough...) to reveal our true beauty, vulnerability, and tenderness that makes us women. Many times our insecurities overwhelm us with thoughts of failure and loneliness.

This book provides lots of scripture, showing our hearts can be healed and that our identities in Christ define us. Our self-doubt and insecurities can trap us from acknowledging our true beauty, but the Lord can rescue us and reveal our hearts as truly captivating.

I have underlined, doodled, circled, and starred so many passages in this book. And I really just want to go back and read it again.
I'm reading Wild at Heart next by John Eldredge and I can't wait to start a little book club over here at Cupcakes and Sunshine. Let me know if you are reading along as well.
Happy Humpday!

Make it Pinteresting Monday: Slow Cooker Chili

I've been taking a bit of a blog break to pray about the direction of Cupcakes and Sunshine and this fresh new year. It has been nice to step away from social media a bit. A nice little breather. I've been thinking about many ideas for the new year and I really want to craft, experiment, and adventure. Join me?

Make it Pinteresting Mondays is a new series I'm very excited to begin over here at Cupcakes and Sunshine. I have hundreds and hundreds of ideas on Pinterest boards that I really want to try out. From crafts, recipes, nifty ideas, fitness motivation, organization tips... I want to do them all. :) Often times, my pins on Pinterest just sit around looking pretty, but now I want to put some action into those pins! You with me?

Each Monday, I will feature a project or idea from another site that I found through Pinterest.
I thought it would be perfect to start out the first Make it Pinteresting Monday with a little bit of comfort soup for the soul. It has been so chilly here in Georgia. And there really is nothing better than a bowl of warm chili, good friends, and lots of laughter. I found the perfect turkey chili recipe from Two Peas and Their Pod on Pinterest this week.

Since it is the start of a new semester, crockpot recipes are SO convenient. Toss in the ingredients, go to class, come home, eat!

For Christmas, my bestfriend Carly gifted me this adorable crockpot (thanks, Carls!) and so of course I had to have her over for dinner to try out the slowcooker chili.

(is it not the cutest!)

The Pinteresting details:

My thoughts: I thought this chili was fantastic! I will definitely be adding it to my recipe collection.

Easy? Um, yes! I really don't think it could get much easier. The crockpot did all of the work. And I did whip up some cornbread on the side. Because what's chili without cornbread? It also made lots and lots so I can easily freeze it for later.

Changes I made: Instead of corn, I tossed in a bit of couscous. It thickened the chili right up. I also diced up a couple of sweet potatoes and tossed them in as well. I recommend adding sweet potatoes to chili 100%. They're pretty fantastic.

Southeast Winter Conference with CRU

hello, hello!

This past weekend, I spent some wonderful time with new friends, danced to Aaron Keyes band, felt the sand between my toes, walked alongside the beach, saw brilliant sunsets, heard an amazing testimony, sang beautiful songs by All Sons & Daughters and worshiped an awesome God in Destin, Florida.

I met so many amazing people whose hearts are so for the Lord and I cherished each and every moment spent with this wonderful community.

I feel like God is putting big things on my heart and with lots of prayer, I know that anything is possible. Knowing that God is in control brings me so much peace. 2014 is a big year. And I can't wait to see how God is going to work in my life and allow me to grow this year! I want to put Jesus forward in everything I do.

One of the big things I took away from the conference was discerning God's will. I desperately need direction. I have faced so many big decisions lately and Psalm 32:8 says, "I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you." I know that if I put my trust in God that I will be lead down the path He intends for me.

I am so grateful for such a wonderful weekend. I'm praying for you and hope you have had a wonderful start to the new year! Let's make 2014 big :)
