My Favorite Time of Year

There are so many things to be thankful for this Christmas season. I don't even know where to begin. I am so grateful to see God's love everywhere as families in need are receiving assistance, prayers are being answered, and joy radiates from helping hands.

I have been so blessed to have special moments to spend with friends and family. From decorating the tree, catching up with old friends, and enjoying sweet celebrations, I just want to soak in every moment. Lately, I have been feeling that time has been flying by. I need to slow down, relax, and just take each moment as it is. I want to appreciate the small details and the special moments that make this wonderful season of celebration so memorable.

This past weekend, I spent time with my grandparents in Marietta, Georgia. One of my favorite traditions is putting the beautiful ornaments on the Christmas tree.

Every year, my grandmother reminds me that when I was younger I used to say, "even more fruit?" after she'd unpack yet another box of the beautiful ornaments. Then, I was tired of hanging each fruit one by one. I wanted to rush through the process.

I wanted to see the finished tree. I didn't want to hang "even more fruit." I wanted the tree to be decorated and done. I wanted to rush and see the final tree showcase. But now, I want to savor each moment of the tree decorating tradition. I want to hang each ornate ornament one by one. And to remember the moment.

Sometimes during the Christmas season, things become a blur and our special events become more of a checklist. Purchase presents? Check. Decorate the tree? Check. Bake the cookies? Check. But this year, I want to make sure that I am taking the time to soak in each and every special moment I have with those around me.

Another one of my favorite traditions is making s'mores with my grandpa in the fireplace as soon as the weather is brisk.

As my marshmallow was getting toasty warm in the fireplace, I was able to look behind me at the beautiful Christmas tree my grandmother and I had decorated together.

I want to remember this as my favorite time of year because of the memories I spend with friends and family, not because of my completed Christmas list of to-do's. I want to soak in each moment and to be thankful for each and every blessing.

I hope you are having a blessed Christmas season.
How are you soaking in each moment?

  1. Christmas really does put things into perspective for us, doesn't it? Reminds us of what all we have, and what God did for us. Such a special time of the year. I love your blog! :)
