Today, is a day to remember. A day that we all remember. September 11th.
I remember sitting in my second grade classroom, innocent and unknowing of what was going on. Teachers were running in and out of our classrooms. It was a Tuesday.
Tears were falling, and the censorship of information that followed the teachers' tears intrigued our young minds even more. We asked questions, but received no answers. We only knew that something "very bad" had happened in our country. I remember getting home that day and watching the tv screen.
I saw smokey remnants of the World Trade Center buildings and people running.
I could hear the sirens echoing throughout our apartment from the television screen. I later found out that it was a terrorist attack on our country. Still, I asked more questions, but received very few answers.
But is there really an answer to why someone would want to cause so much pain on our country? Is there an answer to why someone would purposely choose to harm our safety? Is there a question to why this was allowed to happen?
Last night at church, we discussed where is God in these bad times? In the moments when we need God the most, why does it sometimes feel like He is the most distant?
It is important to recognize and praise God even in our hardest of times. We need to trust God and to be thankful for what He has given us, for we learn through these tough times.
Today, I am thankful for a country that enables us to have the freedom and liberties to talk about the events that have occurred. I am thankful for those who selflessly fight for our country. I'm thankful for the rough times that bring us closer together. The tough times that break our barriers and show us that we are all human.
These verses are a wonderful remembrance of the awesome God we serve and worship and the protection and safety He provides us:
- "The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble." Psalm 9:9
- "For he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble; he will conceal me under the cover of his tent; he will lift me high upon a rock." Psalm 27:5
- "Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him, and he will act." Psalm 37:5
Often times, we find our selves asking, "Where are you God?" when the question we need to be asking ourselves is, "What are you trying to show me God?"
We need to be thankful for the positive and negative in our lifes and at times, this can be very difficult. Today, I am thankful for the struggles, the hard times, and when our hearts ache. I feel God is showing that we need to come closer, hug those around us, and to LOVE all because we are living in this world together!
I hope you are having a marvelous Wednesday! Praying for you each and every day! (:
